Original period manufacture. The last pattern sword adopted for the US Cavalry. The blade is dated to the first year of production 1913, with an even steel patina overall and a few nicks in the cutting edge. The blade has a very slight bend to the left, but nothing terrible and should show some wear as the early production swords were the ones that saw the actual service during the Punitive Expedition and WWI. Heavy basket steel guard with some minor denting from use, black plastic grips with wear to the diamond grip pattern. Wooden bodied, canvas covered scabbard with a metal throat and best of all, the rare "Tent Pole" scabbard tip. Two soldiers armed with the same style scabbards could erect a shelter tent using two of these scabbards as uprights. I cannot remember having owned another example of this scabbard in over 40 years. Terrific old sword from an old collection.
