Original era manufacture. Fine quality US Army Artillery officers dress hat, in the rank of a Field Grade officer, Major to Full Colonel. Dark blue wool body, with a large gilt eagle insignia, ribbed red cap band with two gold brocade bands. Gold wire embroidered oakleaves stitched directly into the black wool covered visor. Complete interior with a sound leather sweatband. Gold brocade adjustable chinstrap secured with two eagle buttons. Written on the sweatband is the name Col. H.E. Brooks. This is quite likely Harold E. Brooks, who in 1939 served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Field Artillery, West Point, US Military Academy. Good research potential.
