Original period manufacture. A beautiful condition set which is identified to a US Navy officer, who, according to records we found on ancestry, served from 1917-1942.The set includes full dress navy officers fore & aft hat, matching dress epaulettes in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander,and a cloth dress sword belt. All of the items live happily in a japanned finish, steel storage box.On the box lidare several paper labels identifying the owner as(then) Lieutenant E. (Edward) Mixon, then serving aboard the USS Seagull at Pearl Harbor.Lt Mixon served as a Supply Officeraboard a number of ships during his career; USS Reina Mercedes 1917, USSHuntington, Vermont, Utah, Seagull 1926, Submarine Base PH 1928, USS West Virginia, Naval Air Station Pensacola 1932, USS Charleston 1937, USS Texas 1941-1942, after which he likely retired from active service. Of interest, the USS Reina Mercedes was a captured Spanish warship from the Spanish-American War, she served as a station ship at Annapolis Maryland. Tragically she was sold for scrap in 1957. Overall the set is in beautiful original condition, a true time-capsule.
