Original era manufacture. A very sound example of the pre-WWII, US issue helmet, with most of the original finish remaining on the shell. Complete leather liner with top pad, and a tan canvas chinstrap with brass fittings. Stenciled on the underside of the helmet's edge is a unit designation, A. 218.FA 5. We take this to be battery A, 218th Field Artillery. This unit was at sea when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred, and their transport ship returned to the US. Later in the war it served with the 41st Division in New Guinea and the Philippines.
