Original era manufacture. A recent purchase from the elderly nephew of the US Navy sailor who earned these awards for service on the Yangtze River in China, prior to December 7th 1941.The grouping includes the following; China Service Medal, American Defense Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, CPO hat insignia, and two officer style overseas hat emblems. All of the pins and clasps, except for the CPO badge, have been removed by the nephew  so the medals could be mounted in a display.Also accompanying the medals is an extensive lot of paperwork pertaining to the sailors service. In most cases, all of the documentation has been sealed in clear Lucite in order to protect the paperwork...so said the nephew. While this is certainly a disappointment, they still provide excellent background information on the sailor's career.The most interesting feature is a pre-war Christmas card from the USS Oahu, a patrol boat on the Yangtze River. attached to the front cover is a clear black & white photo of the boat on the river.
