Original era issue. An un-issued example with original ribbon, wrap brooch suspension and lapel button. Reauthorized as an award for the United States Army in 1877, backdated to 1874, with this medal adopted in 1905. The award and medal were discontinued by an Act of Congress on 9 July 1918. This example was produced during the time but never awarded as there is not an issue number on the edge.
