Original era manufacture. Interesting lot which predates WWI and consists of an 1898 haversack with the brass hooks on its reverse for attaching to the bottom of the cartridge belt. In addition, an 1885 pattern circular canteen with sewn attaching straps on the reverse of the cover. Again, this was to allow the canteen to be attached to the bottom of belt. First step forward towards more modern field equipment rather than the shoulder suspended equipments which date back to the 18th Century. Both pieces are Pennsylvania National Guard marked (NGP) and show typical use and wear for their age.
