Original period manufacture. Massive, thick steel, 15 inch curved blade with wood grips secured with three steel rivets. The blade surface is very clean and well polished for one of these machetes, produced for use in the Spanish-American War, and subsequent Philippine Insurrection. Our troops were not prepared for jungle combat, and a stop-gap means of dealing with the dense brush had to be found and Collins & Co. provided the answer. Standard tooled leather scabbard with a brass throat and tip, known as pattern 1005. Very clean condition, with no issues beyond light wear and age. The blade fits the scabbard snugly, requiringlittle effort to draw the blade.
