Original era manufacture. A very complete, identified grouping of 1st Lieutenant Samuel P. Johns, who served in Company D, and later as Regimental Quartermaster of the 2nd Missouri Infantry during the Spanish American War. During the war, the 2nd Missouri never left the United States, but did lose 16 men to disease and an additional 44 by desertion. The grouping includes the following; 1898 pattern private purchase coat & trousers, with Infantry blue wool cuffs, collar and shoulder straps, with patched and pleated pockets and a full complement of Infantry "I" marked general service buttons. Scattered mothing to the collar only, which is missing one of the 2nd Missouri crossed rifle insignia. Officers eagles and false embroidered 1st Lieutenant rank insignia on the epaulettes, size about a 40 regular. The matching material trousers have a reinforced seat with evidence of them being "let-out" at one point. All buttons are present, no holes or tears, with the name "JOHNS" being written inside the waistband. The waist measures 30 inches and the inseam, 30 inches. Matched pair of leather trimmed khaki canvas leggings with a leather instep strap. Minor staining to the surface of the leggings, with one of the laces being shortened. Complete officers quality sword belt and buckle, with removable sword straps. An extra gilded brass officers belt plate, matched pair of Infantry 1st Lieutenant shoulder straps, an assortment of four patriotic buttons, set of two spare U.S. false embroidered gilded brass letters, AND....best of all, a Missouri Spanish American War medal named to S.P. Johns on the edge. Lastly a St.Louis Missouri Volunteers Medal. This is a great looking set which displays very nicely. **Please Note, the hat is not included in the price, it is a modern re-enactor campaign hat.**
