Original period photography. A very clear image of an armed Infantry Sergeant, holding his 45-70 rifle. On his campaign hat he wears a crossed rifle insignia, of 5 D. His five-button coat displays shoulder straps which indicates his service in a National Guard, or State Militia. The edges of the mount have been trimmed, now measuring roughly 4.25 x 5.75 inches.
