Original era photography. A Cabinet Card mount, displaying a clear image of a young Spanish-American War era Infantryman, armed with a 45-70 rifle. Flynn Photo Company Image, Camp Alger Virginia. Camp Alger Virginia was established in May 1898, at one time over 35,000 men were stationed there, with several brigades sent to Cuba to reinforce our troops in the field. .Although most of the men never left the states, a typhoid epidemic in the summer of 1898 caused 71 fatalities.
