Original era photography. Two clear images with the same soldier appearing in each, 22nd US Infantry at the time of the Spanish-American War/Philippine Insurrection. The double image portrays two soldiersin the position of rest, with clear views of their bayonet equipped 30/40 Krag rifles in front of them. The men are wearing a 5-buttonservice tunic, with 1895 pattern forage caps. On their waists can be seen blue canvas, double loop ammunition belts with C-clasp closure. Omaha Nebraska photographername at the bottom. The name Tom Stastny appears above the head of the soldier on the right. The single image portrays Tom Stastny in a position of ease in a tropical setting; he isstill armed witha 30-40 Krag rifle, while wearing cotton trousers, leggings, issue blue shirt and campaign hat. The bottom of the image has been trimmed making the photographer and location difficult to read.Online research provides information on Thomas Stastny serving with the 22nd US Infantry regiment; undermagnification the number 22 can be seen on the front of the forage caps worn by the men in the first image. The 22nd Infantry served in Cuba duringthe Spanish-American War, and later in the Philippines during the Moro rebellion on Mindanao and Jolo.In 1906 the 22nd Infantry assisted the citizens of San Francisco after the earthquake.
