Original era manufacture. These have always been a rather mystery in the world of 19th century Americana. They have a folding handle similar to the 1874 pattern messkit but are not US marked. They are of tinned steel construction and measure just over eight inches in width. This example is quite clean, some light surface denting and evidence of names and initials of previous owners scratched into its lid.
