Original era manufacture. Tinned steel, two piece meatcan of a circular design, a pattern of which little is known. The handle is US stamped on the end, with an intact hinge and finger loop. The handle can still be snapped into place in the closed position for display, and overall this is a very sound example of this unusual messkit.Bannerman had these for sale in his 1925 sales catalog, identified as US Army late pattern mess pans, 8.5 inches, price...fifty cents.
