Original era manufacture. Navy blue wool sailors cap with a gold embroidered black silk tally displaying the name USS PRINCETON. The hat has been period relined with a floral pring fabric and the top of the hat displays a very nice, ten point compass rose embroidered in red silk. An intricate black silk hand stitched oval decoration emcompasses the perimeter of the top. The USS Princeton was a 1103-ton Annapolis class gunboat, launched in May 1898. She served briefly during the Spanish-American War and was transferred in 1899 to the Pacific. She was decommissioned in 1919 and sold.
