Original era manufacture. A solid set consisting of 5-button, issue quality fatigue coat and wool trousers. The coat looks to be government quality issue, as are the trousers. Original sewn Infantry white Corporal chevrons on each sleeve, with a full complement of original brass general service buttons. Dark blue-grey wool blanket lining to the body with white cotton lining in the sleeves. There is a fairly substantial moth bite in the body of the coat just below the point of the collar (some of which is covered from view by the collar point), and smaller nibbles on the end of the right cuff. On the lower skirt of the coat is a repaired, small L-shaped tear. Since the coat is made of dark blue wool, and also lined with a dark color, the mothing is not glaring and easily visible. Coat is about a size 40 Long. Blue kersey wool, regulation trousers with a 1/2 inch white wool NCO stripe down the outer seam of each leg. There is some scattered minor mothing in the fabric, near the fly, and on the seat where a larger 10 x 8 mm hole can be seen. Heavy white cotton drill lined waistband and pockets with the handwritten name of G.J. Kuckuck is written in ink. The trousers have been modified at some point for a smaller person to wear. The waist has been taken in, and the cuffs brought up, now measuring 26 and 28 inches respectively. The good news is that both the waist and cuffs can be let out again, as no fabric was removed during the tailoring. Looks like an additional four inches can be added to the waist, and three inches to the length by undoing the stitching. During the Spanish-American War, George J. Kuckuck served in Company K, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry as a Corporal. The 3rd, and it's sister regiment the 2nd Wisconsin, served in Puerto Rico, the 3rd seeing combat during the battle of Coamo, August 9th 1898. During their service the 3rd lost two killed in combat, and an additional 2 wounded, with another 41 men succumbing to disease.
