Original era manufacture. A massive, brass ashtray, perhaps shipboard made, from the family of an officer who commanded the USS Perch during the Vietnam War. The ashtray measures 6.5 inches and weighs in at a hefty 4 lbs. Commissioned in January 1944, the Perch conducted 7 War Patrols during WWII, and served as a transport submarine during the Korean War. In 1965 Perch conducted search and rescue missions off of the coast of Vietnam, and made two amphibious landings on the South Vietnamese coast in November & December. She continued active service off of the coast of Vietnam until October 1966. She was sold for scrap in 1973.
