Original era manufacture. Let me begin by stating that this is a very sound example of the War of 1812 era, Nathan Starr contract sword.Curved, polished steel blade measuring 33 inches in length. The blade is quite nice, it remains in original polish, with a 2.5 inch band of vertical (to the guard) cross grain polish, with the remainder of the blade displaying a horizontal cross grain polish. There is a 14 inch false top edge beginning at the point. The blade surface is clean and bright, with scattered areas of clouding from age stains and a few spots of cleaned corrosion. No visible markings. Dark steel patina finish to the guard and pommel, with a carved wooden grip, with about 70% of the original leather wrapping remaining.Sheet steel scabbard with two suspension rings, very minor surface denting, with most of the original black paint finish remaining. The blade draws easily from the scabbard. All in all a very nice example of a 200 year old American made sword.
