US WWI 26th Division Gallantry In Combat Certificate, 102nd Field Artillery

Item #68353 : Original period manufacture. Another example of recognition efforts at Divisional level for bravery in the field during WWI. This time 26th "Yankee Division", to a soldier who served in Battery F, 102nd Field Artillery. Often documents like this would later perhaps allow the issue of the Silver Star medal. In his instance, his name appears in the booklet "Welcome Home" The Book of Salutations for the Twenty-Sixth Division. The name Carlton S. Hosley appears in the section Named for Praise, April 20th 1918, "the following names of officers and men appeared in General Orders of the 26th Division The list includes citations, commendations, congratulations, and other mentions of individuals for acts of bravery and devotion. The dates are those of the General Orders in which the names appear the recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross are given also in separate lists. It is impossible to give a similar list of recipients of the Croix de Guerre, since it was awarded to a number of men after their detachment from units of the Division". Of interest, Ancestry records a listing for a Carlton R.(Raymond) Hosley who served in the 26th, just a period typo. The document measures 4.25 x 8 inches.
