Original era manufacture. A recent purchase from an old Arizona collection, is this private purchase, summer weight wool coat and breeches, as worn by a Sergeant in the 12th (Railway) Engineers Battalion. Olive wool coat with matching breeches, with original insignia as shown. At some point in the past someone has placed a WWI Victory Medal over the upper left pocket, as this man served in France for a year and a half according to his overseas stripes, I'm pretty sure this medal has been collector added. The collar insignia are interesting; on the right side is a US with 12 below, and on the left side, an Engineer Castle with a small 2 D above. On the left shoulder is a well worn, original sewn, 2nd Army patch, the parent unit the 12th Engineers were assigned to in September 1918. Of note, the most needed American units asked for by our new British and French Allies in April 1917, were railroad engineers to help with supply difficulties. These newly formed Railway units were among the first American troops to arrive in France, landing even before our first combat units were sent over. Minimal moth issues (these old sets always seem to have something), bright and clean, in about a size 38-40 coat.
