Original period manufacture. Scarce, original WWI era US Air Service enlisted hat device, worn on the wool service cap. Two piece construction with a screwpost reverse. The insignia was without a locking nut when we purchased it, we placed a WWI collar disc nut on the reverse for functionality, works pretty well. The insignia measures 47 x 33 mm, light age and wear. First example we have ever had.
