Original era manufacture. Standard US WWI canteen set, canteen, cup and cover. Clear US stencil on the tan canvas body, no holes or tears, just some light staining from service use. Clear makers name and date inside the left flap; LCC & Co. 1917. The aluminum canteen cup is not maker marked or dated, no cork inside the cap.The aluminum cup is also not marked but has a folding alloy handle, typical of a WWI issue. The inside flap of the cover, and also on the bottom of the cover is named to R. OATES, and Lt. C. Reginald Oates respectively. The canteen body is also marked with the name OATES.Online research shows him embarking for France on 18 August 1918, under the command or the 3rd Anti-Aircraft MG Battalion. He returned to the USA on the 11th of January 1920 aboard the transport ship Northern Pacific.Good potential for further research, his next of kin were in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
