Original period manufacture. A single, hand-stamped aluminum disc issued to Private Thomas Berger, Company D, 510th Service Battalion.Online research tells us that Private Berger was the sonof Mrs Willie P. Berger of Vastle Virginia, and that Thomas and his comrades sailed for France aboard the USS Powhatten, on the 22nd of March, 1918.Of note, the USS Powhatten was the former German ship, SS Hamburg, a Barbarossa class ocean liner.
