Original period manufacture. A russet leather, Army model saddle marked with a 11 1/2 inch seat. Complete with adjustable quarter straps, round, sheepskin covered reverse safes and double thickness leather, US marked hooded stirrups. Cavalry model with a saddlebag stud on the back, and no D ring on the front as with an Artillery model saddle. Five original coat straps are on the saddle, with a horsehair cinch to complete. The stitching remains sound, a good portion of the sheepskin covering remains on the underside of the bars. The only marking to be seen is on the back of the cantle as shown in our photo. Needs a light cleaning and set-up on a decent saddle stand to make it a very impressive looking rig. Missing a brass loop on the left front, and right rear. Included with the saddle, and part of the deal when the saddle came into our hands, is an army bridle with brass US rosettes on each side of the brow strap. The bridle has seen considerable use, yet the leather remains pliable enough for display, just needing a regulation bit and a set of reins to set it off.
