Item #69323 : Original period manufacture. Standard pattern US Navy officers sword, etched blade and named on the obverse to G.Kirgesner. The polished steel blade measures 30 inches in length with a mix of floral and naval designs on the surface. Scattered spotting and clouding along its length but no real corrosion issues. Wool felt bumper in place, gilded brass guard and pommel, fish skin wrapped grip bound with single strand twisted wire. On the obverse ricasso is a British style brass disc within a six point star, this may be the proof of the Dublin based Dolan & Company, or Clowes & Woodward. On the reverse ricasso is the importer name of S.N.MEYER WASHINGTON DC. George Kirgesner appears 49 times in Ancestry Military search, from 1914 to 1917. Born 1882 died 1952, in 1910 he appears as a Machinist Mate 1st Class aboard the USS Monterey, Olongapo, Philippines. No scabbard.
