Original era manufacture. An identified grouping to a soldier who served in the US Army Ambulance Service from February 20th 1918, to March 28th 1919. According to the New York WWI Veterans Service Data, Donald H. Shepard saw service while attached to the French Army in the Toul Sector April 21 to July 5 1918, Asine-Marne Offensive July 19 to August 6th 1918, Somme Offensive August 9 to September 6 1918, Oise-Asine Offensive September 9-23rd 1918, Ypres-Asine Offensive September 27-November 11th 1918. Born in 1895 he died in 1990. His grouping includes his WWI army enlisted campaign hat with medical cap cords, issue wool overcoat, Issue service coat, WWI New York Service Medal (13567) and a US Army Ambulance Service Medal. Issue pattern Campaign Hat with an intact sweatband bearing the script initials, DHS. Size marked 7 1/8 with original leather chinstrap and maroon & white cap cords. Army issue four pocket service coat, Frankel Uniform Co. NY Depot 1918, US collar disc only, very nice French made Ambulance Service SSI on the left shoulder, two overseas stripes on the left cuff. Army issue overcoat, Henry Sonneborn Co. NY Depot 1918, the name D.H. Shepard is written on the inside of the collar lining. French made Ambulance Service SSI on the left shoulder, two overseas stripes on the left cuff. New York State Service Medal, WWI, serial number 13567 on the reverse, sound original ribbon. Army Ambulance Service Medal with original ribbon, displaying surface rubbing on the obverse. No moth issues to speak of, all buttons are present, one small stitch repair on the coat between the upper and lower pockets.*Note, a copy of the NY WWI Veterans Service Data is included, however there are several period typo errors, his date for being sent overseas service is shown as March 28th 1919, while his return date is shown as March 27 1919. So, he came back to the USA the day before he left for France!
