riginal era manufacture. Standard pattern US M1917 bayonet, with a 2nd pattern leather bodied scabbard. This example has been ridden pretty hard and put away wet, the scabbard body displays several coats of postwar applied paint; one black, the other an ugly green. On the plus side the scabbard is intact and the leather is free of dry rot.Moving on the bayonet itself; the blade displays an even steel patina which is free of nicks or surface corrosion, that's a good thing. Now to the grips; the original wooden grips are intact, however displaying considerable wear. A previous owner thought it a good idea to replace the issue screws, one of which fits rather poorly.
