Original era manufacture. Clear markings on the ricasso, Plumb 1918, and U.S.MOD1917.C.T.Little of the original finish remains on the blade, however the markings are quite clear. The edge issharp, and intelligently done. Matching finish to the guard and pommel, with typical wear to the grips.Standard canvas covered wooden bodied scabbard, with a name stenciled on the front; A.W. Olson, a US Navy and USMC practice.Taking a quick look at Ancestry this morning, I found a listing for an A.W. Olson as a passenger aboard the U.S.S. Sirius, sailing from Honolulu to Midway Island on the 14th of September 1941. He was listed on the passenger manifest as a Civilian Contract Employee.Quite likely he remained on the island of Midway after December 7th; and witnessed the Japanese attack on Midway in May of 1942.
