Original era manufacture. Standard M1917 steel helmet which has been condemned for use. One inch wide red/orange stripe has been painted across the top of the helmet, and a 12 mm hole has been drilled into the rim. I don't know what this old helmet did to make the army so mad, as it looks sound enough to me. Original combat paint finish, intact original liner and a partial leather chinstrap.
