Original period manufacture. A private purchase hat with a deluxe cap tally embroidered in gold wire with a real silk backing material. Standard blue wool top with a black cotton lining.Overall the hat is in sound condition,I counted a single moth bite on the underside of the hat, and four small ones on the top. Being of a dark color material they do not stand out too much. The silk cap tallyshows age and wear with scattered fraying, however the wire embroidery is quite sound.USS John Francis Burnes (DD-299), was a Clemson Class destroyer, named for a US Marine Corps officer who died of wounds during WWI. She was commissioned in November 1918 and scrapped in 1931.
