Original era manufacture. This coat was recently purchased as part of a large US WWI collection. It represents quite well a private purchase coat as worn by a US Army officer in the trenches of France. Knee-length, double breasted, water proof fabric with a removable, button-in wool lining. Each cuff has an individual adjusting strap and buckle, with the body having a high-waisted belt, so as to clear the field belt worn below. The bottom of the belt has four evenly spaced "D" rings to suspend equipment from; leather covered frame buckle. The right shoulder has a triangular shaped piece of matching material for reinforcement, with the collar designed to be folded upwards for protection, and is also equipped with an adjustment strap and buckle. Overall the coat exhibits typical age and wear, but is amazingly complete for such a complicated garment. The top right button is missing, and there is a
