Original period manufacture. US multi piece construction Son in Service flag with a single blue felt star, all machine sewn. White canvas hoist with brass grommets. Small slip of brown paper accompanies the flag with a penciled notation..."This is the flag we had at the front door of my home while my brother Amos P. Porter(?) was in France in the service in World War I. The silk one went bad so we put this one on to replace it. That time every family who had boys in the service in war put a flag in the window with a star for each one in service for his country."
