Original era photograph. Nice clear sepia toned image of the USS Aeolus, formerly the German steamship SS Grosser Kurfurst. The North German Lloyd liner Grosser Kurfurst was launched in 1899 and sailed regularly between Bremen and New York. Interned in New York at the outbreak of WWI, she was siezed by the US Government in 1917 and converted to a troopship. She was sold for scrap to Japan in 1937. Our photo measures 11x15 inches and resides in a period frame. A small label in the lower left corner displays the name, L.C.Eller 1917-1918. Perhaps the name of a sailor who served on the Aeolus during WWI.
