Original era manufacture. Heavy tan canvas satchel used to carry magazines for the French Chauchat automatic rifle. On the inside of the cover flap are numerous markings, including French issue stamps dated 1917, andUS stencil for K Company, 104th Infantry Regiment. During WWI the 104th regiment served with the 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division, the first US National Guard division to see combat in WWI.The pouch is basically sound, showing honest service use and wear. The adjustable carrying strap is made of canvas and leather, with an extrasoldier installed hole just where the canvas and leather portions join. This hole shortens the length of the strap considerably, allowing this example to be worn at ones waist, rather than over the shoulder. I would think this would keep the pouch a bit more secure at the waist, ratherthan swinging around your shouldersin combat. As said, normal service wear and use, the only comments would be the leather flap closure strap is broken, and the leather/canvas shoulder strap is getting a bit weak where they join, it is however not broken.
