Original era manufacture. A very scarce example of the USMC pattern, issue campaign hat, as worn by Marines prior to WWI. It's most distinctive feature which separates the Marine campaign hat from its Army brother, is the rolled under edge, which is turned and stitched. The Army pattern edge is straight, and unadorned. Original sewn, brown oilcloth sweatband with a size tag of 7 1/8. After very carefully folding down the sweatband, traces of the original contract stamp can be seen, not very legible though. Nice darkened brass USMC EGA mounted to the front of the hat using a grommet for the attaching point, darkened brass number 4 below. With the hat at the time of our purpose, is this micarta storage press, likely from a later era, but does its intended job well of keeping the hats brim in sound condition.
