US WWI USMC M1917 British Mfg Helmet, Supply Company 5th Marines

Original era manufacture. Standard British made steel helmet with a complete liner, and wool felt crown with rubber insert. One of the chinstrap loops has broken off, however the piece is present. Rough texture exterior in original finish, with a nicely toned rendition of the emblem used by the Supply Company, 5th Marine Regiment, being the Indian head on a green square. Above can be seen an enlisted EGA hat device mounted to the helmet. Our seller advised us that the hole made for the EGA was punched, not drilled into the shell. We have not removed the device, but as our source is a very reliable local collector, we have taken him at his word. Behind the EGA is a thin film of modelers glue, which we presume is there to stabilize the device from spinning around, as the mounting nut on the screwpost is present. The paint on the front is authentic, the EGA is authentic, how long they have been together is hard to say.
