Original period manufacture. Cotton embroidered, cut-edge patch. Normal age and wear. The upper right corner of the shield is not as crisp as it once was, otherwise quite clean. The 101st Airborne Division, needs no introduction here, gaining fame along with its sister 82nd "All American" Division, during the Normandy operation on the morning of June 6th 1944. It'sdefense of the Belgian town of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge iswell known. Their commander'scryptic reply to the German demand for thesurrender of the 101stwas epic, "NUTS".The Division served in four campaigns in Europe in 214 days of combat, suffering the loss of 9,328 casualties.
