original period manufacture. A screw back badge with an enameled obverse, normal age and wear. Originally authorized as the 17th Observation Group in 1927, then in 1931 the 17th Pursuit Group, 1935 the 17th Attack Group and in 1939, the 17th Bombardment Group. This final designation saw the group's four squadrons equipped with the new B-25 medium bomber. It was from the crew's of the 17th Bombardment Group that the volunteers for the Doolittle Raid were chosen. NS Meyer marked reverse.
