Original era manufacture and photography. A very handsome uniform set featuring a dark blue wool tunic, without the exterior pockets, piped in red, with a 2nd Marine Division SSI machine sewn to the left shoulder. On each sleeve are Staff Sergeant chevrons in golden yellow cotton embroidery on red wool felt, with a Croix de Guerre aigulette on the left shoulder. Metal EGA collar emblems, and four service ribbons. Size about a 36-38 regular.Blue wool trousers with a wide red wool stripe down the outside seam of each leg, waistband measures 30 inches, the inseam measures 32 inches. The set is private purchase, as no issue markings can be seen. The set is quite clean, with just a few very small and scattered pencil-point size moth bites. With theset at the time of our purchase, was a pliable imitation leather waist belt with silver fittings. I do not believe this is a proper belt for the set, but it comes with it anyway. *Note, a very advance USMC collector advised that these imitation belts are of the era, but couldn't give and explanation for the silver buckle...always something to learn, thanks Kevin. Of greater interest was the white paper envelope wefound inside the tunic pocket. It contains six WWII era black and white photographs, two are about postcard size. The subject matter involves a Marine armored unit which were assigned Stuart tanks. The reverse of one of the images is identified to Platoon Sgt Hinn and is dated 1943. I remember speaking with a Vietnam Era Marine Gunnery Sergeant about the USMC dress blues about 10 or so years ago. I was commenting on what a striking image they present, his comment back to me was, that they make every Marine a gentleman when they are beingworn.
