Original era manufacture.  A nice quality WWI US Army officers hat, with a darkened brass eagle and side buttons.The body of the hat is free of moth damage, being slightly out-of-round from storage. The mohair cap band is free of damage, as is the bound, russet colored visor. The adjustable leather chinstrap is intact and pliable, but there is a goofy tape repair on one side. Light olive colored silk lining which is damage free, and looks to have something written on its surface, perhaps the owners name, but I can't quite read it. The wide leather sweatband is complete and pliable, and is not falling out of the hat, but sections of stitching have opened up on the front and sides.Overall, a very sound example of the classic US Army officers service hat, correct for all ranks, 2nd Lieutenant to General. Even Black Jack wore one.
