Original era photography. A nice clear sepia tone image of the commander of the US Army 79th Division (Cross of Loraine) during WWII. The general is shown seated wearing his ribbons and adecorated helmet liner. It is signed in white ink in the lower right corner, with a dedication to Colonel Dalton. General Wyche was bornin 1887and died in 1981. He graduated fromWest Point in 1911, served in France during WWI as an Artillery officer, and commanded the 79th Division throughout WWII.He was awarded The Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, Army Commendation Medal, French Legion of Honor (Officer Grade) and Croix de Guerre with palm.After the German surrender in 1945, General Wyche held a partyfor all the unit commanders of the 79th Division down to Battalion level. This may have been occasion when photographs like this one were handed out to the attendees. The card measures 4 x 5.5 inches.
