Original era manufacture. British pattern, olive wool service cap with a cloth covered visor and a brown leather adjustable chinstrap. Darkened brass British general service buttons, and a darkened brass American Field Service insignia pinned to the front. Green wool felt lining with a period replacement oilcloth sweatband, which has come loose in several places. Considerable mothing can be seen on the top of the hat, and behind the chinstrap. Due to the matching material underlay, and the covering ot the strap, the hat displays quite well. During WWII, a small group of American volunteers served with the American Field Service (AFS) as ambulance drivers in foreign armies prior to America's entry into the war. Many served with British forces in North Africa and Italy. It's too bad about the moth issues, still a very unusual hat from a small volunteer organization.
