Original era grouping. This is an interesting grouping of medals and paperwork to an NCO of the 28th Cavalry Recon Squadron who received the Bronze Star, for an act of gallantry in evacuating a wounded man under shell fire. In addition to the Bronze Star,Sergeant Foster was also presentedthe French Croix de Guerre at Hof/Salle Germany in 1946. Citations for the Bronze Star, with two detailed accounts of the action, andawrite-up in English of an article printed in the German Frankenpost regarding the Croix de Guerre, are included. The remainder of the paperwork includes promotion certificates, discharge certificates and an interesting letter from a former comrade whohad recently returned to the States. Another interesting certificate was one earned in England in 1944, regarding the completion of a class on the German Order of Battle, Military Intelligence Service. In addition to the paperwork, a nice lot of original b/w photographs are included, one which portrays the regimental color and battle streamers of Foster's unit. The medals which came with the group are; slot brooch BronzeStar, crimp brooch ETOmedal, Good Conductmedal-no ribbon, sterling marked Combat Infantry Badge, and a three place ribbon bar. Purchased from the estate of a local collector, who was always meticulous when it came to keeping the history of the items in his collection intact.
