Original era manufacture. An early production Ka-Bar pattern USMCutility knife made by Olean N.Y.Standard pattern knife with a blue finished blade, stacked leather grip and an early threaded pommelwith a round tang. The blade displays wear and use, with amix of blue and steel patina finish. It is quite sharp, with evidence of sharpeningon each side of the blade edge, and top of theblade near the point. For some reason, the KA-BAR name was ground off theblade ricasso, while the OLEAN N.Y. remains, no doubt because it was difficult to get at by the grinding wheel. Perhaps done by a Marine who wanted to remove any trace of government ownership from the knife, or,Uncle Sam himself who removed the name prior to sale. Who knows...help me out here Bill.Sound stacked leather grip with no cracks, chips, or missing segments. Sound russet leather sheath with an intact pommel strap, which is stamped USMC, BOYT, 43.
