Original era manufacture. A fairly early WWII example of this massive USMC issue bolo knife or machete, often referred to as the Corpsman knife. The polished steel blade displays only the letters U.S.M.C., no makers markings which makes this a bit more unusual. Very nice dark wood grips which are secured to the blade tang with four steel rivets ground flush. Dark brown leather sheath in very nice condition and displaying on its reverse the makers name BOYT and the early war date of 42. At some point in its life, someone has added a very nice early WWII darkened bronze enlisted EGA to the scabbard body. Certainly not regulation, but there is no guessing as to what branch of service used this well made weapon. The blade is really nice, just some old verdigris build-up from living in a leather scabbard, just needs a light bath.
