Original era manufacture. Standard pattern sword with a pre-1941 pattern eagle on the pommel, where the eagle's head looks to it's left. The chrome finished, triple-etched blade measures 31 inches in length, running straight and true. Retailer trademark Challenger, with GERMANY stamped on to the top of the spine. Etched into the blade is the name Ignatius N. Tripi, no sharpening, nicks or corrosion pitting. On the obverse, towards the point and extending back to the end of the etched panel is some frosting to the surface. Gilded brass guard and pommel, fish skin wrapped grip bound with triple strand wire. The black leather bodied scabbard is in sound condition, tight stiching, with gilded brass fittings. There are scattered areas of scuffing to the surface, but no breaks or creases. There is a rather new condition sword knot wrapped around the hilt. Doing a quick search on Ancestry, I found listings for an officer with that name from 1929-1978. In 1942 he appears as a Supply Officer aboard the USS Portland, and also as a Paymaster in the temporary rank of Lt. Commander. He shows up again as a Pay Inspector in 1945.
