Original era manufacture. A nice quality sword, possibly dating to before WWI, with a six-pointed star proof mark on the obverse ricassso, and on the reverse, Jacob Reed's Sons of Philadelphia, PA. The blade measures 30 inches with etched designs on each side of the blade. On the obverse is etched the name, Charles Hogue (Hague?) Sterne, providing some research opportunity. Very ornate gilded brass guard with the letters USN, the pommel cap eagle looks to it's left, right to the viewer. Real fish skin wrapped grip which is bound with single strand wire, and wrapped around the guard is an original sword knot. Leather bodied scabbard with gilded brass fittings, the scabbard stitching is sound, with the surface showing scattered scrapes and scuffs.
