Original era manufacture. A US WWII M1 Garand, or M1942 bayonet, which has been cut-down, and fashioned into a fighting knife. The blade measures just under 6.5 inches in length, and engraved in the obverse blood groove is what looks to be Charles Van Buskirk. The guard has been trimmed down, and the lock mechanism removed. The pommel has not been modified and the black plastic grips are intact.Well used, but intact leather sheath of riveted and sewn construction with the pommel strap intact. A quick search on Ancestry shows a Charles (W) Van Buskirk on the USMC muster rolls from April 1944-January 1946; serving in the field with the 2nd Marine Division January-October 1945. Possible match, further research needed.
