Original era manufacture. Cotton embroidery on blue cotton twill, which is machine sewn to a red wool felt backing. The red backing displays a stitch line around the edge from being sewn to a uniform.The red backing was an unofficial, and short lived addition to the Marine Raider SSI, to honor those men of the 1st and 2nd Battalions, who participated in the combat actions on Tulagi and Makin Islands in August 1942.
