This uniform consists of the jacket, skirt and hat which all belonged to Catherine Chappell. The school she attended was called the Ogontz School for Girls in Pennsylvania. The school existed from 1850 to 1950 and is now a Pennsylvania University. Amelia Earhart attended this school in 1929.The Ogontz School became so famous for its military drill, it is rumored that Adolf Hitler, a respected new head of state at the time, wrote Abby Sutherland a letter of congratulations on her training of youth.Just received this regarding Catherine Chappell:From: "LILLIAN ANNE HANSBERRY" To: Istew14244@aol.comCc: "Patricia Hswe" Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2014 2:19:37 PMSubject: Catherine Chappell - Ogontz School pre WWIIDear Ms. Stewart,Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Ogontz School for Girls and Catherine Chappell.
